What strikes me about that whole list is that most of it, nearly all of it are things that were in the sims freaking 2. My question is what do those people think the sims 4 is suppose to be? A come back of the sims 2? Last time I had checked the Sims 4 is pretty much a layout for an all new way to play the Sims which has been said along the lines in interviews with the Gurus. I personally would find it boring that everything from 2 and 3 is added all into that base game, that would bore me to death because if i wanted to do this that's only available in the sims 2, I have the sims 2 I will just press the play button to that. To add too much stuff to a base game would mean that people would say they have enough and won't get an expansions unless it's seasons or pets because come on, who doesn't love a cute fluffy kitten?

Ooowwll I actually never had my teen go through that, actually I think i never even noticed. I personally loathe this list, I find it informative to know that when i buy the game that features will be missing but that list is biased and it feeds the negativity that the sims 4 haters love. What I don't like about TS4 haters are that they will nitpick at everything about the sims 4 and make it bad. To me, this list is nothing. A lot of this stuff is from the Sims 2 so why would I expect things from the sims 2 to be in here? I can live with things not being included but this is only a base game and Sims 4 haters can tone it down a bit on the list and making it a big deal

Graham brought this on himself by making those remarks and downplaying the list as a "minutiae" of differences. The response is polite, calm, and fair to correct him. He is more than welcome to reply once the forums come back up and explain that wasn't the list he was referring to in his comments and I will remove it.

I did add the purpose to the thread. I don't believe it is necessary, but I don't see how it hurts. I have said the same thing from the start about why the list was created. You can see where I first referenced it if you search the history. It was made as a resource.

Some things I can understand people being upset about missing from Sims 2; pools and toddlers for example. At this point it's something you would expect to be in the base game. To me it's not that big of a deal because I didn't care for the toddler life stage all that much anyways and swimming wasn't that big of a deal to me. Sure it sucks but I'm not going to hold it against the game.

Other than that though you do raise an interesting point; people want something new and fresh yet at the same time they want things the same way they've always been.

No offense man but I highly doubt he was referring to you or your list :/

This isn't to put down you or your list but developers at major game companies such as EA just aren't kept in the loop about an angry thread going on in one of their many forums. To be fair they also aren't kept in the loop about a happy thread going on in one of their many forums.

I think we all need to put our personal opinions on the game aside and make a Pro/Con list without all the fighting. It doesn't help, it just divides the forums even further.

Yes I agree I wasn't big on tots or babies, after my lady Sim gave birth I aged the baby right up to a child. And as for pools, I never killed Sims with them or had backyard pool parties with them, I never liked throwing parties at my house because the Sims would never do anything but just stand around or walk around my house or steal my things.
I understand that people want some things to be the same but things change. The Sims has been following "tradition" for a while along with sprucing things up in every new game and/or changing the games features and throughout all of the nitpicking and negativity people still got the game, tried the features, and loved it regardless so what makes this game any different?

Yes, that is EXACTLY what people think. And by the way, the list is NOT mostly Sims 2. Heck the first two sections alone are entirely Sims 3. Its only in the third group where you see this happen and even in there its still not most but rather about 25%.

Just because a feature was removed from Sims 2->3 doesn't mean they have a free pass to not introduce it in Sims 4. Are you now suggesting that people will be perfectly fine if The Sims 5 ships without pools? Come on.

I have a question for you though. Do you have a vendetta against the Sims 4 or are you just unhappy with what you see so far? Just a friendly question

Umm... show me the list he was referring to otherwise? If it wasn't mine, it was the one on MTS and that's about it. He has posted in a couple of my threads over on The Sims 4 Forums and clearly reads them.

    To clarify a few things:
MAJOR CONFIRMED MISSING: (All were in base versions of Sims 3)
No way to create/place new lots - And you only have 2 empty ones! (patched into base Sims 3) (x)
Note (already said this so I will give the same response): We were unable to modify public spaces in The Sims 3 until a world editor was released in a patch. Although this is a base game feature, it did not come until later. You can bulldoze any lot and make it empty. The way you are wording this makes it seem like there are two lots to edit in the game. I think you should leave the part about only two empty lots out.
No story progression - Aside from Sim's aging its out! (x)
Note: Instead of having story progression, the game has an NPC management system where players can control the NPC Sims moving into the world. For example, players can create their own NPCs for the world and delete the ones they don't like.
Completely FLAT building lots - That's right we've gone back to living in a flat world! floors/levels (x1) (x2)
Note: This was already covered as terrain tools. Public spaces will have sculpted terrain so you say No sculpted terrain on lots or terrain sculpting tools.

ALL OTHER MISSING GAMEPLAY ELEMENTS: (Were in base versions of Sims 1, Sims 2, or Sims 3)
No dinner proposals (in Sims 2)
Note: Sims can now how dinner parties and there are dates and group outings.
    No fears (x)
Note: There are no wants either. The system has been replaced with the whim system.
    No garage doors (x)
Note: Already covered under no cars.
No gardeners for hire - Who is going to cut my lawn? (x)
Note: There are gardeners but they only work on public spaces.
Note: Each game has different special life states. Maybe you should just speculate there are non like ghost or aliens.
    No move object cheat (x)
Note: They replaced the move_objects cheat with the free placement cheat and the ability to move objects Sims are using without cheats.
    No newspapers (x)
Note: They replaced newspapers with the smart phone and computer.
    No random deaths
Note: Random deaths are still in the game but the player will receive warnings.
    repairmen (x)
    Note: This was confirmed? Where?
    No restaurants (in (x)
No swimming / swimwear - Including lakes, fountains, etc. (x)
    No tragic clown
No way to watch the sim commute to work/school (x)
Note: Graham said you can watch your Sims walk off the lot. They don't teleport.
No website for browsing exchange or store (its in-game only)
Note: The Exchange was replaced with the Gallery. Not a missing feature. It is still a website but it can only be accessed inside the game.
    Will Wright (in Sims 1 & 2)
Note: Not a missing feature of the game. Not a feature of the game at all. A lot of people who worked on the first two games are working on this one. He didn't make the entire game by himself.
    bikes
Note: Instead of listing cars and bikes separably, you should just say no ownable vehicles.
    Sims 3 Patched in Features:
    No zodiac signs
No opacity slider for makeup (patched into base Sims 3) (x)
No party invitations from other Sims (ok this may be a duplicate as it is apparently part of Story Progression) (x)
Note: This is an EP feature that came with Late Night or University Life. I don't know if it was patched into the base game.
No male body hair (patched into base Sims 3) (x)
    curfew
Note: I think this came until the Generations EP. I don't know if was patched in or not.

    Sims 2 Features:
changing tables (in Sims 2) (x)
    No hot tubs (x)
    social bunny (x)
    No acne (x)
    No aliens (x)
No animated hair (in Sims 2) (x)
No aspiration failures (with shrink visit) (in Sims 2) (x)
No dinner proposals (in Sims 2)
    No dreams (in Sims 2)

MOST LIKELY TRUE (not yet confirmed):
    No cashier’s (in Sims 2) (x)
    No create a world
No exterminator (in Sims 2) (x)
    No swings
Premium Membership REQUIRED to get certain sets on release day or at all

    STATUS UNCERTAIN (not yet confirmed):
No inheritance (in Sims 2) (x)
No interests (in Sims 2) (x)
No magazines (in Sims 2) (x)
No pinball machines (in Sims 2) (x)
No way to water flower beds / bushes (in Sims 2) (x)
    No family trees (x)

    CONTESTED FACTS (responses vary):
    No attraction system
No MAC version - Answer changed from "after PC release" to "no comment" which has 100% of the time ultimately meant "no".

This is what you have posted on your thread so I apologize if there is more to the quote that I am unaware of:

"But the conversation then changes into discussing what is or isn’t there and the minutiae of differences in each feature along some scale because the easiest way to try and understand something new is to compare and contrast it to what came before."

He doesn't even mention a list, to me it read more as just something in general he has encountered and honestly I didn't even know you thought he was specifically referring to your list until a few minutes ago when you said that's what you thought. I thought you were just saying "Hey! We don't feel these differences are so minutiae." I didn't know you were responding to it because you thought he was specifically talking about your thread.

Actually, same for me, bfluff. I didn't realize you specifically thought he was talking about your list. I thought you thought he was talking about people who were unhappy with the game in general and the features that are missing from it.

Its a long story. I WANT to like The Sims 4. EA is making that very difficult.

They screwed up (with the online thing) and they should have just fessed up at that point and took the lose. I know a lot more than I typically let on, but they are taking advantage of the fact that most simmers are casual gamers (at best) and will not be fully aware of what has happened until it is WAY too late. Even today we saw a thread where someone just learned that CAST and Toddlers were removed.

As long as people purchase it they can go back to their investors with great numbers. It doesn't matter if they return it later on or end up hating it. They don't care. Its only that purchase that matters and EA is playing everyone here.

Honestly, I am HUGE fan of the fun comical behaviors and graphics of The Sims 4. Its the missing open world/flat lots that piss me off more than anything and the lame excuse they offer about performance despite other games proving time and again they can do it.

Anyway - its late so I am out of here. Talk with you all later.

Well okay sweetie then i don't blame you at all because I don't like EA all together. It's the game I like. Now when I saw this game I had done homework, I was just as disappointed as you when i found out how many things were not going to be in but then I sat down and thought, "Well hey, this isn't the first time Things will not appear so I might as well suck it up" so i did and then I done more homework and did my own list of things not included and things included, things included won and I found the new features had satisfied me enough. Pro's vs cons. Pro's win so far. But I value your opinion and I'm not telling you to like the game because to be honest I don't even know how to game will eventually turn out. But it has been said that the sims 4 has been under production for a few years, I don't think the sims 3 has and i think that the turn out of the sims 3 is what's fueling peoples hatred for the sims 4.
Open world yes I understand that but open world was not a good part on the sims 3. If the sims 3 ran on the ancient specs that are required to run the sims 4 then maybe it wouldn't have been bad but open world was too much to process and has caused problems. The upset with the Sims 4 is that at least unlike the sims 2 we don't just see out house in one neighborhood and the rest faded away. We get a view of the town and the neighborhood coming to life and I like that.
I personally think the whole small world thing is just a way to make it so the game won't have to many glitches and bugs and goes laggy because it has too much to process. Like the two worlds were actually all one world, just divided by a short loading screen.
I lived with the excluded list because even though I am a devoted simmer, I have accepted change. But come on you and I both know that on the sims 3 forums those people were way out of line with how they addressed the game and the company you can't even lie on that one.
I don't know about you but I will give this game a chance, and if I don't like it oh well i'm returning it. But it seems that EA hadn't done this to be vile and nasty, the producers hadn't confirmed everything not to make a comeback, just pools.

I trimmed the quote on my thread.

You have to understand the entire context of the discussion over at MTS, but either way his quote goes on to say a "Looking at a list of features on paper may tell you what you can expect to find in the game, but it doesn’t tell you if it’s fun"

I know of two places maintaining a "list of features". He has replied multiple times in threads I have started on The Sims 4 forum, often several pages deep (indicating he is reading them at least occasionally). The list has been discussed on over a dozen different forums, and in fact made a well timed front page of /r/gaming yesterday which is why it had 30,000 unique visitors yesterday afternoon. I am sure its not going to impact the series much, but it is safe to assume he has seen the thread.
