I have The Sims 4 installed and everything was fine until I completed the initial start up game play (being inspired etc). Now whenever I try to click on any in-game object nothing happens. Build/Buy and the Gallery and all other on screen content responds fine but just no objects or sims, I can't even move. The sims will do things of their own accord but I can't control them.I have tried moving, creating a new family, reinstalling the game but nothing happens.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Any ideas of how to fix it?

    Thanks,
    Beth.

Once your in game, click the 3 little dots at the top right corner of the game and it will bring up the options menu. Click the Game Options button! Then on the Graphics tab at the top where it has a dropdown menu that says 'Display Type' click that... and choose windowed mode!

Also Mouse trails will be in the controls tab area probably.

I'm having the same issue. (w8) I can't click on anything, I just spent HOURS creating my sims and now I can't even save my work. All clicking ability has ceased. I can't even click save to go on, when I try it just gives me that sim rotation thing and spins my sim. I'm so upset.

If you guys found a way to fix your problem, please let me know! I can't click on any of the options in the game. I can click on everything else but I can't make my sims do anything.

I had the same thing happen. I was stuck in create a sim. I am also running (and freaking hate) windows 8. Anyway, I hooked a mouse up to my laptop and clicked the wheel. Looks like it needed a center click, at least for me.

I just had that problem too! I restarted my computer, and it fixed it... Try that if it's still not working?

I've tried restarting, making sure mouse trails is off, switching to "windowed", AND I'm using a mouse for my laptop. I have windows 8. Why the heck doesn't this work!?

    1. Turn of mouse trails.
    2. Close mouse software and switch to windowed mode.
    3. Uninstall the Demo, if you have it, might help.
    4. I also read changing the display to 125% might help.

The display is how big text and objects are on your screen. If you don't know how, for windows 7 you just click on the Start menu and in the search bar, type 'display' and then it will show up in the search results. Or going to the control panel (from the right side of start menu) and searching display in the search bar in that window will get the same result. I don't know much about windows 8, but just use any search function in your start menu/control panels etc. should lead you to it.

That's all I got for now.

Already done all of that. I'm so angry, why can't EA just release a game that actually WORKS for once?! $60 for a piece of crap.

I am having the same problem! I can click but no actions pop up. When I click on objects, the hand moves it. I just got this for My birthday and I can't even play properly. It was working fine last night, but today . nothing. I'm very upset.

Gotta fix for y'all without restarting or losing your work. Hopefully people who do a Google search for the problem will find this solution: I hooked my laptop up to an external monitor and when it switched resolutions I was able to click normally again! Now going into windowed mode doesn't seem to fix this... I was just about to force-quit the game and lose all my hours of hark work in CAS when I decided to just try it -- it worked!

    ***SOLUTION***
I have a solution that works for me so it might work for you guys too! All you need Is a Windows button on your keyboard. While stuck it that mode it's still possible to click on the body of the sim to open the clothing panel, what to do is click and open the panel and bring the mouse back onto the Sim , click and hold the left click down and quickly press the Windows button. When on your desktop, keep holding down left click on an empty part of your screen and press the Windows button once more to go back into the game or press CTRL ALT TAB and switch back to the game and press ENTER. Let go of the click then try to click freely. Try multiple times. Hope this helped! :)
