Beware the virus!!

I'm currently in the middle of rolling my laptop back to a restore point a week ago because of a virus I got from "that site". I got the blue screen of death three times now and after looking through my log files it's being caused by a computer trying to access my computer.

The problems started two days ago (I tend to leave my computer up and running all day) so I didn't notice that it was shutting down and restarting till today when I actually sat it for several hours.

My very good anti-virus program has failed to pick up anything in scans but it has stopped the attempts to access.

So......be careful out there and those of you who went to "that site", be especially careful!!

Which site?

What is your anti-virus program? And if there's a option do a deep clean of your computer and not just a quick scan. Also it may not be a virus. Your computer may be overheated, you may have a RAM issue or bad drivers.

I wish I knew what site you were talking about...

I think she means the torrent sites that people were getting the demo from but both of the ones I saw posted were clean so I could be wrong.

I have advanced degrees in various technological stuff, don't like to say too much personal online. So I do know my stuff but even us technogeeks sometimes do stupid things like infect our computers.

And no, those files are not clean. Well, one is and at least two of the others are not if you read through the comments. You can never know for sure where the virus originates but since the only other thing I've put on my computer recently is the actual demo from Origin....simple deduction would point to that site as the culprit.

Right now I'm having to update both my graphic cards and some other things since I did a roll back to about a week ago.

Anyways, the point of this thread was mostly to say check your computers if you went there just to be on the safe side.

I was there, nothing to report at the moment.
Loki's right though, if you went there, it's best to do malware scans and be sure that your AV/Firewall are both active and up to date with virus definitions.

Ouch! What a pain. Hope it doesn't take you too long to fix it.

Well, now you guys know the easiest way to counter a virus is to roll your computer back to about a week before the infection. I'm all clean now. Just had to update everything (anti-virus program, graphics cards) that had been updated in the past week.

It's why creating weekly restore points is so important.....end of PSA. LOL

Thanks for the encouragement guys, now I'm going back in game. I think I shall make some nasty sim and call it virus so I can squash it in game! LOL

may I ask which torrent site exactly? Thepiratebay? Kat.ph? Because those sites are normally trusted and in torrent comments people will let anyone know if its a virus but now since you say that I'm gone just get this CAS demo off of here

If you mean that torrent that was posted on this site and everyone went to download it I didn't know that it was a virus since my anti-virus software never picked it up. It normally does pick things like that up since I have it set to do so
