BEEP BOOP, Hi Guys! I just joined today but I felt like making this post. :imnewhere:
As much as I love the Sims franchise and the new CAS, I can't help but feel like they're lacking some features. Example, I wish I could adjust the volume of hair, like in the game Black Desert. Being a big fan of asian pop culture, of course I know about this game, but I don't expect everyone to know about it; so here is a trailer of the character creation:

In the Black Desert video we can see the volume of the hair being adjusted. As well as height and length of the characters limbs. Now I know height is a feature a lot of people want, but it would cost so much to implement it in the Sims because of all the individual animations that would have to be included. The only reason Black Desert has such a variety of height features is because your characters don't interact with the other characters in the game as romantically/physically because it's an RPG game. A height slider would be out of the question for the Sims because if one Sim is tall and the other is small, then you might have the "romantic kiss" animation looking like they're taking a chunk out of the other sims neck/chest. I think height presets might be possible however I don't think we'll see them in a later expansion pack or update just because of the time and cost it would take, however it's not impossible!

Here is a good video that talks about the "height feature" being introduced into the Sims:

If you watched the Black Desert: Character creation video. I want to know what you guys like about it, and features you'd love to see in the Sims 4 CAS?

Welcome Sammy! :welcome2: :D cool hair!

Did you post that video somewhere else, i'm sure I saw someone talk about wishing they could customise their sims like in that game. It would open endless opportunities for sure! But imagine the PC you'd need to run it

The guy in the video is right though, it'd require alot of extra animation and what not to account for different heights but surely its by no means impossible.

As I have said in an earlier post, can't it be possible for 2 sims of different heights to hug, but instead of having to create several animations for sims of different heights hugging, can't you just have some sort of head tracking thing in place. so if the person the sim is hugging is taller or smaller, the sims arms and head will adjust to make contact with a predefined point on the body of the taller sims. So if the sim is taller, the shorter sim will use the same hugging animation but his/her arms and head will be raised slightly to account for the taller sim?

Not sure if that makes sense, and I certainly don't know enough about video game animation to say if thats actually possible or not. But developers are paid to think out of the box.

There's bound to be LOADS of solutions they can implement to solve this issue.

Hi! Thank you so much! haha
Oh I haven't posted it anywhere else! This is my first post

Sure you might need a fancier PC to run Black Desert but simple things like hair volume, and double eyelids (I know we have a bunch of eye presets now but I'd like to be able to change the heaviness of my Sims lids) should be a simple thing to implement in the Sims? Whilst making the Sims available to most PCs

I still feel like CAS is wayyyyyyyyyyyy behind in its time, look at this footage of a 10+ year old MMO

Don't get me wrong I love the Sims and everything but I wish they could employ the team that worked on those games! And maybe we'd have a greater range of customisation features  but one can only dream :p

As for the hugging animations, I think your idea of a head tracker would be really neato, although I think that would be pretty hard for developers to implement, but it's certainly not impossible! With the amount of money the Sims franchise makes they should be able to do something about height, and now that teens are the same height as young adults that takes away from my experience because a lot of the teens I know are smaller than adults haha, but I'm sure the modders will have something to say about the height thing. Although I hate relying on them... :shy:

I still think height presets are the way forward! :couchpotato:

Honestly, I love your ideas and I've thought about them myself, but they just aren't possible without lots of hard work and lots of time. The idea for hair customization is a great idea, (and I think I'm going to check out black desert cause it looks like something I would love) but for it to be in The Sims 4 or any Sims game for that matter would mean that either there would be a lot of clipping between hair and faces or there would need to be a way for hair to move when it hit's another sims face when they are kissing, hugging, etc. So the hair thing would be hard to do without dynamic hair, which requires a lot more programming.

With the head tracker, that would still either require some form of animation in order to do, unless you want it to look like the sim instantly bends down to kiss/hug that person. No matter how you put it, the easiest way for sims developers could put in height that looks good is with presets and lots of animation as well as programming.

This is coming from someone who is planning to develop a 3D game and has done major studying in both game design and animation. (I'm not trying to sound like I know everything, sorry if I send out that vibe.) Honestly I would love to have both of those features in The Sims, but they aren't very easy to do with a game like The Sims.

i think the reason Sims 4 went with a stylized look was to have less power on the hair and cloth.

Is the game Black Desert out yet? I believe it was in development. Not sure, though.

I just looked at their site, it's planned for a western release sometime in 2015 and it going to be released in Korea later this year.

Ahh thank you, yeah Black Desert is really good, I have a friend in Korea who got the beta demo he said he has no complaints it's amazing. Ahh I understand how clipping would be a problem.

I hope the height presets will be implemented in a later update or The Sims 5. I think "stretched skeletons" would be a cool compromise. I understand how difficult animations are I've worked with 3D modelling software and animation software.

Another thing I'd like is asymmetric features because not everyone is completely symmetrical, and it'd allow people to make it more like themselves. however this is just my opinion haha

Well, that's reassuring about Black Desert. The game seems really ambitious, so I was a bit skeptical, like I am with The Sims 4.

With the asymmetric idea, I think that is a great idea. You should be able to toggle it on or of so people that want to make symmetrical sims, they don't have to use their eyes to tell it the sim is symmetrical or not. But that is a great idea!

Ah yes a toggle would be a great idea! I hope the modders come up with something! :)

Nah, I'd say that South Korean game developers are pretty trustworthy, I wouldn't worry about them. My friend from South Korea said that the "Daum" is a pretty big company. They provide her internet and she said she hasn't had any problems with that so that must be a good sign right? haha
