cannot create or load..please help!

I just got the sims 4 and I'm sharing with my boyfriend. When we play, we don't want to mess with each other's sims so I tried making a new world or game file so I can be apart from his sims. It won't let me. I try clicking new game but it does nothing. Its hard to even get it to highlight anything in the upper right of the main menu. I also tried making the game into two separate save files so I could at least load one...I can't do that either. I don't understand and I really want to play....please help! ! !

I just found out the issue. The only way to have the option to click it is not on the actual icon like every other button on the game. Its literally on the border of the buttons, near the bottom. If it isn't just right, it won't give us the option. Took us 3 mins once we found that out just to click new game. Extremely irritating and it needs to be fixed. Thank you to the one person who replied.
