7 Reasons The Sims 4 Severely Disappointed Me

I LOVE everything Sims. From the Original Sims, Sims 2, Sims 3 (And every Expansion and Stuff Packs), SimCity, SimFarm, SimCopter- I LOVE SIMS! And I didn't think Sims 4 would be any different.

However, I couldn't be MORE disappointed if it was made by my twelve year old nephew in the garage on an Apple II-- And this is why.

1- One of my favorite things about the parenting Sims games was their wonderful development of the maps and overall world.
Especially in Sims 3 how you could zoom in and out of the map, check out what was happening at the park down the street without having to actually travel there.
Sims 4 has reverted back to the ridiculous "You get to see THIS far away, and here's a load screen if you TRULY want to visit your neighbor." Not to mention the towns small and underwhelming layout, segregating the neighborhoods and limiting how large the plots of lands are AND how many there are.
Sims 3 was wonderful because you could create your own town how you wanted. If you wanted the Snooty-McSnootypants living next door to Dirty-Foodstamps-- THEN YOU COULD.
When I heard Sims 4 was in development- I thought, "WOW, they could take the map and world system FURTHER and might even let us design our own cities from scratch- allowing us to manipulate the mountains, or rivers, or deserts, or jungles, et." How AWESOME would that have been? But no. We get WORSE than Sims Classic.

2- Where is Create a Style?! That was KEY in making the Sims universe feel unique to your style and taste! Again- we've reverted back to Sims.

3- Home Lot Terrain- 'Um, this lot is awfully flat- I would like to place my home atop and outrageously high mesa surrounded by a moat. Ope! Looks like I can't do that either- Maybe a pool will do-- OH WAIT. No POOLS either.'

4- What is with the return of the baby bassinet? Oh- I forgot- I was playing a updated Sims 1! And I can't find my toddler ANYWHERE! All I can find is this random nine year old chillin' next to the baby bed... Hmm. How odd.

5- Where are the cars? Oh yeah! They're not needed because the map is ONE DIMENSION AND YOU CAN'T TRAVEL WITHOUT LOAD SCREENS.
If I were in game development- I would have kept the cars and added the car options from previous games- including just sitting in the car, going for drives, woohooing (that's what she said), and more.

6- I can't help but feel that the career list is significantly shorter. I don't want fifty astronauts from the household, but that feels like my only option.

7- Though its not a necessity- I am quite bothered by cheat codes. TestingCheats always resets itself and has significantly less options and Moveobjects is nowhere to be found.

There you have it. It's not a HUGE list, but it's enough to really upset me. ESPECIALLY the map issue. I can't get over it.
If there is anything on my list that I have mistaken or maybe just haven't discovered yet- feel free to set me right and rid me of my ignorance.

But it wasn't all bad. Here are the things I DID enjoy.--
1- I definitely liked character creation- or rather the sliders- I don't care much for the lack of clothing styles. Basically, we got soccer mom or slag.

1 1/2- Also- in relation to the characters, is the characters RELATIONSHIPS. I liked that though one character may like someone as a friend or even romantically- it showed that sometimes feeling are one sided.

2- And I also liked the ability to set the height of the walls. And the wall sliders. And the roof sliders. So, I guess I liked the basic building process. But that only includes Walls, roofs, and foundations. I mean- where are my fireplaces and chimney's (And I don't mean the lame ones hiding in Decorations.)

Heck, maybe I haven't explored the game well enough yet, but first impression express that EA is making a mickey of me.

In conclusion-- I thought with graphics and technology developing more and more everyday, that Sims 4 would be Sims 3 on steroids-- adding everything they left out (AND MORE) and taking out the rubbish. Instead they took out the simple things that made the game great.
Basically, they should take the few things that were okay about Sims 4 and put them in Sims 3 and continue making Sims 3 expansions that I will definitely buy, seeing as how I own all of the others AND loads of stuff from the online store.
I likely won't buy any expansions for Sims 4- unless they completely redo the world and map and replace all which they've stolen from me. Is that too much to ask?

When I wrap this up. I'm gonna go play Sims 3 and cry.

The Sims has meant a lot to me over the years, so this feels like a spit in my face.

I feel hurt. I feel lied to. I feel betrayed by you, EA Games. I feel like I paid $60.00 to play a Facebook game. EA- You failed. Try again.

Am I the only one who's NOT bothered in the slightest by the loading screens?
They take a max of 5-10 seconds, and it makes the whole game run so much faster and smoother..
A worthy sacrifice imo. However, if you have a less high end laptop on which these loading times would take longer, I can see why they're annoying.

I also love being able to skip toddlers, they were always so much work. ^^

I am honesty not bothered by a lot of that. Toddlers were too much work and didn't really enjoy that life stage personally. Maps aren't that important to me as I only used it to get from one place to other. CASt just lagged a lot and since Sims 3 was unstable for me, I had to have it on low settings and barely noticed textures.

I don't mind flat lots as so far, I hadn't have one sim get stuck and freeze the game (happened way too much in Sims 3).

I do wish that there were more careers and that the worlds will bigger, but overall I have been happy. To each their own. Personally I didn't like Sims 3 over all (always crashing or freezing), so I ended up uninstalling it.

    Hi, BanniUai!
I too felt some disappointment with the apparent digression of the game.... BUT let's remember.... EXPANSION PACKS. I mean to be quite honest, unless you owned all of the expansion packs for TS3....it was LAME.

    The new clothes....the new worlds/neighborhoods/etc.....
I sort of felt that the lack of create a style made me focus more on actually playing the game instead of worrying whether or not my comforter pattern matched the color of my walls....I spent hours on that kind of thing...and I think it's more important to focus on the new gameplay. SO many opportunities with the edition of emotions. The Sims are real now!! REAL...like.... they have actual personalities. I don't have to make up a story in my head of how they're feeling...because they actually have feelings!!
Careers. Again... I believe there will be a LOT more options in expansions. And EA just wants you to buy every new edition they come out with...so I think they have to make the base game kind of lame in the options department... so you'll want more...and buy more..

I feel like EA's severely teasing us with the lack of cars considering they have car icons on just about anything travel-related. Not to mention the decorative cars that keep zooming past our faces from time to time.

Yeah, cars do seem pretty pointless in the game, I can now see that reason for myself since I played. But look at TS2, cars DEFINITELY didn't serve a purpose since you could only load your lot and that was it.

I hope cars do return in an EP as paid homage to TS2.

I am very pleased by the speed in which everything loads. About 2-3 seconds to save, 5 seconds to load into my Sims home I'm playing and into different areas of the world, 10 seconds max to save and exit. Loading in is a lot smoother now, too. God forbid my Sim/family was too big and I had to sit and watch every piece of furniture load individually on the lot before I could even start playing. For me, in the Sims 3 slow was good, atrociously slow was where I was pulling my hair out. So obviously finally having fast loads is awesome for me. I have a great gaming comp, not going to get into specs atm but the loading speeds Sims 4 has is what I expect from a good game. I've already added a good handful of CC and I see no difference in my loads (yet) which makes me a much happier simmer.

Yeah, my game is somewhat loaded with CC as well and there's no longer loading than my usual load time (5-10 seconds).

    I smell new content-reading technology.

I guess i'm sorta bothered by the loading screens and sorta not bothered by it at the same time...honestly i'm undecided...
I mean it was AWESOME in sims 3 going around just looking around checking what's happening around the neighborhood...but at the same time it made my game stutter and lag...and all that...but sims 4 runs a whole lot smoother, and it loads a lot faster so i ain't complaining...and like others here i dont really care much for the toddler life stage...
but the lack of pools seems weird...some of us own pools in real life and that's what this game simulates right? Real Life?

Yeah that's probably true, but still if it could have been on the base game...then why wasn't it is all i'm saying.

I love how people flock to these forums after being shunned by ea forums to talk about the sims 4 -_-
Keep your negativity to yourself please. I can mind you having your own opinions but when you go all out to shove it in everyones faces in every facet of their life, then there you have a problem.

See, personally I love The Sims 4 now, more then I did the love Sims 3, even without pools, or huge open worlds.
The Emotions are really fun to play around with, especially with some Traits that will add onto the emotion. I.e Loner Sim being Tense around other Sims. It is super fun to try and handle all that.

In addition, I am fine with the loading screen. It makes the game run a lot faster with fewer crashes, while if I get on the Sims 3, it will go as slow as hell, and I have a REALLY good computer. I mean, I dislike how you get loading screens when traveling within a neighborhood, like going from the gym to the bar, but besides that it is all good.

And finally, the careers are fun to handle. I know there aren't many, but as time goes on I bet there will be some type of "Ambitions" Ep released.

Well, I understand why EA may had taken out some features (and I am not defending EA, just understanding)...Simmers don't always have the best computers and a lot of simmers do not use their computers for games like Assassin's Creed and Batman. So yeah in TS3 lots of people had problems and they wanted it to run better on these computers that to be honest aren't meant for gaming.

Tbh, the loading screens aren't bad. The world still feels alive, way more alive than TS3. Even though TS3 was an open world, it still felt dead.

I don't think there is much of a point in cars since there are loading screens.

As said previously above, there are expansions and I can't wait for them. TS4 is more closed than TS3 but I feel it is more alive and I am less bored.

Now the gripes I have are when your sims get married, why no change in last names? And I can agree with testingcheats resetting itself and resetSim not working.

Have you noticed that use of the fast forward button is lacking?

Everything is great so far.... for me, I am very please with it. Building feature is so stunning and easy, fast plus all are rich layout and objects, etc... They should add "game keys and mouse option settings" that allow me to change the setting/changing the keys/mouse like every games have but quite surprise there's none. *shrug* I truly love it, best game ever!
My rating: I give the Sims 4: 3 of 5 stars. (Cuz no keys/mouse setting, heights, todders, pools and moveobjects. All of them are unavailable in game beside that, if they add them in game... I would change it to 5 stars.)
