The Site is Back Up - What a crazy 24 Hours - Sorry guys and girls

Sims4Forum is alive after all!

So as everyone probably knows, the site is back up after 24+ hours of downtime. I've been to hell and back (as a webmaster) trying to resolve the problems we've been facing. I've received countless emails wondering what was wrong with the site, so sorry guys for the downtime.

Basically this is what happened.

Before the site went offline I got an email from our host over at hostgator informing us the site was using too many resources on the shared hosting server we were on and were affecting other users and warning me i'd have to resolve it; Which is strange, since we're not a gigantic site, so I made some changes which i'd assumed would solve the problems.

No dice. A few hours later I received another email from our host over at hostgator telling us my hosting account had been disabled completely until I resolved the issues and told me we'd have to upgrade to a more expensive package. I had to get them to whitelist my IP so I could come on and try to fix the issues. I informed them I'd done what I could and asked them to bring the site back online. It's now been beyond 12+ hours and i've had no response from them.

This is completely unacceptable.

So we've had no choice but to make some emergency backups, research new hosting providers and ultimately me and Gigi have had to invest in a higher powered VPS server much sooner than i'd anticipated which is big upgrade coming from what we had... we now essentially have a virtual server to ourselves as opposed to sharing the server with god knows how many other Hostgator clients.
Over the past 6-8 hours i've been fixing bugs, backing up databases and files from our old host and restoring them on our new host. Yes, it's time consuming and uncharted territory for myself who's been with hostgator for years.

But here we are, back again.

Because i've had to change nameservers on our domain name... so it's no longer linked to hostgator, it takes a little while to update for everyones ISP's so some people will be able to access the site before others. But we're hoping everyone is back on the site now hosted by our new hosting provider within the next 1-6 hours.

It's been hell quite frankly, there's nothing more stressful than a thriving, growing site like ours being switched off and out of our control. It's 5am here, I've been up all night trying to get it back online!

Tomorrow/Today i'm hoping to get a donations thing up on the site for those who don't want VIP. We really need your help more than ever to help keep the site online and help us afford the new hosting package we are on.

12 hours later and i find the site is down STILL on our new host, and after investigating our new host tells us our old host added some code to our htaccess file which when transferred over to our new host locked up the site again.

But they removed the code for us, so that's the site open to everyone again! Happy days

they are indeed, they're very arrogant!
