Does anyone know if it will have some kind of DRM always-online system like Simcity at launch. If it does, it'll be mighty stupid of them especially have what happened with Simcity. They can't afford to do that again!

I think it's in the FAQ on the site that we'll just use origin the same way we did in TS3

It is going to have Origin's DRM but you won't have to be online. Origin is required to play the game. Origin has an offline mode. The only time you would need to be online is when you first install the game, want to access the gallery, or need to update the game or Origin..

Please tell me the installation isn't through origin *Facepalm* I thought you just had to register the game and then install via the disc? NOOOO!

Sorry, you will need Origin to install and play the game.

I have Origin and a great internet connection but I'm worried about backlash as I don't think people particularly enjoy EA shoving their games client down their throats some more :(

I don't think it would be a problem. People dealt with the launchers for both The Sims 2 and The Sims 3. Origin basically replaces the launcher.

Ubisoft has it's own client, Amazon has it's own client, Gamestop has it's own client, Steam is a client for games, etc. People should be used to downloading clients to install their games. Most games bought retail for PC requires some type of client to install.

I know but I miss the TS2 days where all I needed was the disc :(

Well, the game does not need to be online to play.

It will probably work in the same way of Thesims3, hopefully better.

I definitely agree since I prefer to install my games from a disk. Skyrim takes 3 hours to download from Steam versus the twenty minutes it takes to install from a disk.

However, I will say that I was really happy for the ability to download my games from the Origin client after my disk drive broke. So while I prefer disks, having the option is always nice. Makes me wish that it were possible to register Sims 2 games on Origin.

What if in 10 or 20 years later.. Origin may disappeared.. How can we able to re-use the old game again? I think it's really dumb to install it with origin. I prefer to install on disk alone. I suggest that some people should back up their games where they bought them at Origin.... just in case.

Which means if one has slow internet, better organise a tea party in the meanwhile.

That's a good point and definitely making me rethink my preorder on Origin. After all, just because EA is a massive publisher right now doesn't mean they will be forever or they could eventually decide to cut their losses with Origin if things with it ever started going south. It's been one of my main objections to digital distribution in general.

I think I will definitely be backing it up as you said, or just purchase the disk to serve as a backup once it's really dropped in price.

Even if you purchase the disk version, it will still require Origin to play. No matter where you buy the game from, the game comes with a requirement to have Origin. Without Origin, you can't play the game. This makes having a backup pointless.

If they do cut Origin, they may allow players to transfer their games to another download client or they may unlock the games for the players.

It is not dumb because you have to install the game with Origin even if you bought the disk version unless you plan to pirate. Origin is the new launcher. Some people would rather give money to the publisher to support the game instead of pirating the game.

Pirate? I think you don't understand quite clearly. As I mentioned "What if 10 or 20 years later... Origin may disappeared..." Remember, not many people are/were pirating the games. They will stuck.

Alright, thanks. For some reason I thought it would be similar to the Sims 3 where even though you could register it with Origin (if you chose to buy a disk instead of through Origin) the game itself still had its own separate launcher.

Hopefully Origin doesn't disappear anytime soon but if it does then I hope you're right.

If Origin disappears, even if you bought the retail version of the game and they don't unlock it, you won't be able to play the game. There is no real difference between the digital and retail versions.
