So, just heard about this. What do you think about it?

I'm not very happy about it, to be honest. :/ I admit, I'm more of a sims 3 fan than sims 2 and as such I'm used to the ways of 3. Going back to the way sims 2's story progression (which isn't really progression at all compared to 3 [not to say 3's was good either, gotta love Twallan!]) seems like a step back and is disappointing to me. But yeah, what do you think? Do you like not having a lot of story progression or are you the person who likes playing one family and let the others do their thing?

I do like it .Biggest complain of Sims3 players to Ts2 system is due to the diference of age wich can be opted out by the player weather it likes TS3 neighborhood aging or TS2 restrict aging or no aging. And personally , i find the new system less anoying than TS3 one where romances start ,babies born and totally non-sense jobs are asigned out of nothing and without any reasonable logic, and most of all, i hate families beign randomized, mixed and kicked out of town.

I want them to age, nothing else, i dont like things geting out control and goofing everything up, i have to say i am geting very fond of the new SP and find those to be very good changes. I am a simmer that likes to go switching between families, and i dont want my sims to be frozen in time wille i am out but i dont want the family to get messed up either. The new system is a very pretty upgrade as it clearly went in a compromise between TS2 and TS3 system, taking out the headaches caused by both.

I like it, i like it a lot. Sims3 lovers may not like it, but as a TS2 player this is just what i needed.

This does mean that I will have to change my game style a lot... I don't normally play multiple households, but it also means I can expand my game style ;) . As long as once I've played a family they continue to gain skills and such, I'll be happy. I will have all kinds of ideas to play out with all the families in my worlds :sneaky:. I'm looking forward to how the game works and how I work it o_O.

I like a lot of story progression. I usually only just play one family until I get tired of them and make another family. I like the sims in my neighborhood moving on without me.

I like auto aging but at the same time, I wish other sims can have kids and stuff, because I can't be bothered going to a family's I don't care about's home and doing it for them.

It's just stupid how I have to do that now. I love marrying someone random then finding out they descended 5 generations from the Goths. I hated the aging system of The Sims 2...sigh...

Now I have to rely on someone making a progression mod to do this for me.

Agree. At the same time though -- I couldn't stand story progression fucking up my families and adding HOBOS to live with them, because the hobos needed place to stay and the family wasnt 8 people. Yes, my game did that. It also split up huge families, scattering them all across the map, because they "didnt get along". So in the end, every household was named Bunch or Goth or Landgraab.

Lol that is so true. I remember switching to another family just for a while because I wanted my main family and their teenager daughter to date my teenage son.

And the girl was being a butt, so I wanted to control her to get them to finally go steady.

I switched back and the wife who was previously a housewife had a job! I was like NO NO NO!

I wish what they can program in is to see which house we have played in X number of human days. Like if a household goes beyond lets say a default setting of 2 human days without being played, then progress and do whatever. The setting can be adjusted or turned off.

Agreed because I play the same way you, do (one family til I get bored, marrying a random townie, etc.). I guess we'll all have to wait and see how it's all going to work.

They should just have settings like where we can choose if we want our game to run like TS3 or TS2 to adapt to all kinds of players.

I honestly can't be bothered playing every family or having to play a family because I want their toddler to marry my toddler when they get older.

It was base game. Your sims can have babies and all that. We aren't even getting what we got in The Sims 3 base game.

So basically, they took a scrapped game model that was made before sims 3, polished it and think everyone will love it now? Why it was scrapped in the first place, I can imagine. I hate to admit it but they did raise the bar with sims 3 and all its features. That's why the engine in sims 4 can't handle open world, story progression and toddlers(!?), because it was based on sims 2? Theories and conspiracies :cautious:

Exactly! Though it may be a while... I heard Twallan retired and isn't going to work on 4. I think there was another person in the community who made a story progression mod, and I heard he/she isn't going to carry it over either. Either way, I do hope someone makes one sometime.

Thesims2 had open lot and fully playable grocery stores and clothing stores, as well as toddlers that were way more intersting than Thesims3 ones and swiming pools. Thesims3 may have introduced Open world, but overall it prooved to be a downgrade as much as Thesims4 looks like, but in diferent aspects and it did not change till now as many of the features in TS3 are rip off from either Sims2 or Sims1. Sims2 also had socialbunny and sims4 do not, and even aliens at basegame.

For me, if they reverted to Thesims2 system with better graphics and CAS as you are stating that would be great as that i find that system way much better, but that is not the case and it certainly wont be unless they add everything TS2 had with EPs as far as what was exclusive to TS3 will mostly stay with TS3 now.

Yeah it was some upgrading and downgrading with The Sims 2 and The Sims 3, I agree with that. I do miss the open places of The Sims 2 and The Sims 3, even though it was open neighborhood, it was just really a bunch of menus on deciding what to buy or us waiting until our sims get out. It was really no motivation for us to venture out our homes.

In The Sims 2, I was way more active, always ventured outside the home. So I am not too mad about the lots. Its just the constant loading screens I am worried about.

See, that's the exact opposite of me! With the sims 2 I never felt a need to venture outside, whereas witih 3 things were there and open for me to see and as such my sims went out more. Hopefully with the shorter loading screens it'll more like 3 than 2.

I have to admit that I will miss story progression or at least Twallan's version of it. I'm glad that we'll still see sims in the neighbourhood ageing up alongside our own but I will miss seeing the sims grow in more than age. I've had a couple of occasions where my sim's best friend from elementary school and his worst enemy from that same stage would end up getting married.
