Down in New Orleans.

Down in New Orleans.
This is a little off topic as it isn’t news per se, more a general observation about the look of the town in The Sims 4. A piece of concept art for The Sims 4 is available as an in-game decor item in The Sims 3: Into the Future, the picture is entitled ‘Riviera’, which immediately makes people think of the French or Italian Riviera. However the look of the town so far definitely seems to be based on Louisiana, just like in the Disney film The Princess and the Frog. Looking at the images released so far from the game and comparing them with stills and concept art from The Princess and the Frog could offer a sense of the tone they are aiming for in the new world.
From columns to the strip of greenery in the middle of the road the images contain lots of similarities.
The above image is some concept art from an earlier version of The Sims 4, which they have obviously retained some features from. The venue in the art from TS4 almost looks like a modernised version of the concept art from The Princess and the Frog.
Downtown New Orleans from The Princess and the Frog and the Riviera concept art available in Into the Future. Here Riviera looks like a cross between New Orleans and a modern European town.
The Reason I’m commenting on the look of the town is because I admire the fact that they’ve gone for something as stylised as the rest of the aesthetics in The Sims 4. They could just have easily have gone for a more ‘vanilla’ style town like Sunset Valley in The Sims 3. I’m not entirely convinced that this will be the only town available in the base game however, mostly because Maxis are back on board and The Sims 2 had 3 original towns to choose from but also because the town in the background of the UI image looks more like an old English town rather than good ol’ New Orleans (they could be from different stages of development though).
As usual, we’ll have to wait to find out.
