I hate digital media because of this and I also love to have a physical copy too, I don't feel like I own if it is just in origin.

Buying the disk copy and the digital copy are basically the same thing. You need an Origin account to use both. Origin is the new launcher. Without Origin installed on your computer, you won't be able to play the game even if you have the disk version. If EA decides to get rid of Origin, the people who bought the disk version are going to face the same problems as the people who bought the digital version.

100% agreed... Origin isn't that great. That's why I bought the boxes instead!

I wasn't necessarily just referring to The Sims 4, I was mainly talkin about games I own now, such as The Sims 3 which doesn't need origin. Also I still like to own a physical even if I have to use origin to install it, I bought the physical version of Simcity 5 and I knew that had to be installed through origin, I collect video games, so I like to have a physical copy.

The main reason to get a physical copy of The Sims 4 is to have the art book and maybe the box art. Other than those two reasons, there is no reason to get a physical copy.

Very few computer games have physical copies. EA is one of the few companies that still does physical copies of games although they require Origin. I am not sure if the physical copies of The Sims 4 work like most of the other games today. Most games require you to download them using a Steam key. For example, you just get a box and inside the box is a code for you to download the game on Steam.

I know that, but while EA do make the physical copies I will buy them, and I'm not being funny but on release Origin is usually like £10-£15 more expansive then in retail stores. I'm buying the Limited Edition The Sims 4 from Game.co.uk and it is £40, on origin it is £50, so I'm paying £10 less and getting the box with everything inside the box (Not sure if you get a booklet or not) and I get it on Origin too, so tell me which is better because I'm seeing a clear winner here.

I get what you mean, digital media is the future and I will eventually embrace it, but I will forever love physical discs and packaging, I love looking through my game collection, being able to touch it and knowing it's my product. What if I forgot my email for Origin and wasn't able to access my games? They'd all be gone, I'm sure that wouldn't happen but if it did I've got the physical copies to use (Obviously this is TS3 I'm talking about).

In summary I'd rather not wait 3 years after release for the expansion packs and games to be £5 like they are now just so I can use Origin and not pay extra.

I understand what you mean in regards to having something physical available to look at. I also understand trying to buy the game on sale. I haven't seen any sales on the base game and everywhere is selling the game for the same price. I am just going to get the game through Origin and maybe buy a physical copy later. I haven't preordered yet, I usually do so 2-3 weeks before it is released.

I don't know where you live so can't really tell you where it's cheaper but usually retailers make it slightly cheaper because there is so much competition out there. Hence why I bought from Game and not Origin lol.

I live in the US and have been watching the prices. I am going to contact Origin customer service to see if they are going to have any discounts on the game anytime soon.

You know, that's very interesting. I live in Canada and getting it on Origin is actually about $10 cheaper for me than buying a physical copy anywhere but on Amazon which, unfortunately, doesn't take Paypal. Talk about a reversal.

That's so weird... I can't even think why it would be more expensive either because they are cutting out the middle man and get all the money from the sale whereas retail stores buy the games from EA and then sell them at a higher price, right?

I price checked the Deluxe/Premium edition on several websites:
Newegg; Gamestop; Best Buy; Walmart; Target; Fry's; Neobits; play-asia - 79.99
    Gamebreakerz - 77.99
    Amazon - 79.96
    Origin - 69.99

I live in the UK, here it is the opposite, The Sims 4 Limited Edition.

    Game.co.uk - £38.00
    Tesco.com - £38.00
    Shopto.net - £42.85
    Origin - £49.99

    Weird.

I was looking at the Limited Edition too and the prices are the same everywhere. How much is the Premium/Deluxe edition where you live?

It's the same story, £60 on origin and most other places are £50 although there weren't many places that sell the premium edition.

I guess that is because you have the Collector's Edition out there. Origin is still cheaper because it doesn't charge sales tax. Sales tax can bump the game price up by 5-6 dollars.

Lucky you. Out here, sales tax is added at the register, or if you buy online, in the cart. Digital games don't have sales tax only physical copies do.
